Negotiation Strategies in an Integrated Natural Language Generation System

چکیده
This paper describes negotiation strategies in an integrated generation system (INLGS) based on the formalism of Schema–Tree Adjoining Grammars with Unification (SU–TAGs). Integrated or uniformmeans that all knowledge bases are specified in the same formalism and run the same processing algorithm. In our project a reversible parser/generator runs knowledge bases in the formalism of Schema– Tree Adjoining Grammars with Unification. SU–TAGs comprise a condensed grammar representation and direct parsing/generation deals with partially unspecified schemata. Parametrizing the knowledge bases means that the user specifies a hierarchical system where the rules are classified according to their generality. This is done for all knowledge bases (i.e. components). The decision making of the generation system always tries to find a solution that satisfies as much rules of the most highest generality level. Backtracking of dead-ends which can e.g. occur in incremental generation is also guided by this method. First the most fine-grained rules are revised before more general decisions are withdrawn. A main advantage of this architecture is that negotiation between generation components can easily be imposed on the system. We illustrate this on how to resolve local dead–ends in a parametrized manner.

Corrective Feedback in EFL Classrooms: Learner Negotiation Strategies and Uptake
This quasi-experimental study examines the extent to which research findings from teacher Corrective Feedbacks (CFs) and SLA concerning the efficiency of Focus-on-Form (FoF) pedagogy is transferable to the context of foreign language learning in Iranian schools. To investigate how "grammar instruction with FoF-oriented error treatment" functions as a matrix in which English learning takes plac...

In this study, it is attempted to survey some intervening factors leading L2 Iranian learners’ not to be successful as well, and then seeks some of the features that might be applicable to open new windows into L2 learners in Iran. Also it concerns some aspects of language learning, which have received poor attention from both pedagogical and non-pedagogical areas. This article examined some so...

متن کاملNo Negotiation, Limited Negotiation, and Extended Negotiation in Proactive Focus on Form in Vocabulary Acquisition
Negotiation, as an interactional strategy and proactive focus on form (FoF) have received increased attention in second language research. The combination of negotiation and proactive FoF, however, has not been examined in relation to L2 vocabulary learning. To address this gap, the present study investigated how the amount of negotiation and proactive FoF impacted learners’ vocabulary knowledg...
